The Elements

The alphabet of astrology. The dominant element in your chart shapes how you sense the world.

Astronomy & Myth

Since ancient Greece, philosophers have seen the world as four basic elements. In psychological astrology, these are energy types—not just materials.

Psychological Lens

Jung mapped the elements to four psychological functions: Fire (Intuition): focus on future possibilities and potential. Earth (Sensation): focus on physical reality and the senses. Air (Thinking): focus on logic, definitions, and objective truth. Water (Feeling): focus on values, relationships, and emotional flow.

Shadow Pattern

Missing an element creates clumsiness or overcompensation in that domain. For example, too little Earth can make plans hard to execute; too little Water can feel emotionally cold.

Integration Path

Balancing the elements is the alchemical goal. Develop the element you lack (e.g., practice writing and debate if Air is low).

Deep Dive

Fire

Signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius. Core drive: spirit, inspiration, action, confidence. Fire is the spark of life—it burns and illuminates.

Earth

Signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn. Core drive: material form, structure, results, security. Earth provides the container so fire does not burn out.

Air

Signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius. Core drive: communication, ideas, relationships, perspective. Air connects everything; it is the carrier of information.

Water

Signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces. Core drive: emotion, the unconscious, fusion, memory. Water nourishes life; it is the language of the soul.
