What is a solar return?
A solar return is the moment each year when the transiting Sun returns to the exact zodiac position it held at your birth. It usually falls on or within a day of your birthday. The chart cast for that moment is your solar return chart, traditionally read as the themes of the year ahead.
How the solar return calculator works
Enter your birth date, time, and city, then choose a year. The tool finds your natal Sun position on Swiss Ephemeris astronomy, solves for the exact instant the Sun returns to it that year, and shows the planetary placements at that moment.
Why birth time matters
The Sun moves about one degree per day, so a precise birth time pins the natal Sun more exactly and sharpens the return moment. Without a time the return is computed from a midday estimate and is approximate.
Reading your solar return chart
Read the solar return placements as a portrait of the year, the way you would read a birth chart for a person. It describes themes and emphases to reflect on, not fixed events. Pair it with your natal chart for context.
